Former Imo State Governor, Ikedi Ohakim Drags Newspaper Publisher To Court Over Perceived Blackmail.

Perhaps in keeping with the current war against blackmail, the former Executive Governor of Imo state, Chief Ikedi Godson Ohakim (Ochinawata), in order to protect his name, person and integrity has approached an Owerri High Court, dragging with him an Owerri based newspaper columnist and politician, Mr Jones Onwuasaanya (FCC Jones) to seek redress over several recent publications considered to be libelous.

Chief Ohakim who attributed his failure at the polls in 2011 to suspected malicious and libelous publications that went viral and unverifiable but accepted by Imolites said that never again will blackmailers succeed or public figures become victims of blackmail in Imo state.

The respondent deponent in the matter now at the Owerri High Court,Jones Onwuasoanya is the factional publicity Secretary of All Progressive Congress (APC) in Imo state led by Daniel Nwafor.

He had hitherto written many good articles in support of the erstwhile governor until recently when he was alleged to have pitched camp with Uche Nwosu, who they alleged had placed him on fat payroll only to attack any person or persons who oppose the aspiration of Uche Nwosu as governor of Imo state or those suspected to be threats to his ambition.

Some of the latest offending publications are the ones titled “is Ikedi Ohakim mentally qualified to seek for electoral position in Nigeria?”, “Ohakim’s insult to the Catholic Church is becoming alarming”, in which the writer gave credence to flogging of a Revd. Father.
